The land rewards those who build.

Alberdi Capital Group is a newly formed group of general partners built for one purpose: to bring world-class U.S. shale technical expertise to bear on Argentina’s Vaca Muerta formation, in partnership with the operators who already know the country and the basin.

Who we are

A team built for Vaca Muerta

Three strengths, drawn from the same operating history, brought to bear on one formation.

Permian & Eagle Ford roots

Our partners have personally directed drilling, completion, fracking, and geomechanical engineering programs in the two shale plays most directly comparable to Vaca Muerta, across hundreds of wells and multiple operators.

Vaca Muerta, applied directly

Years spent working the formation specifically — its geomechanics, landing-zone selection, stage design, and completion intensity — and how those differ from, and resemble, the Permian and Eagle Ford analogs.

A record of returning capital

Built, operated, and returned capital on behalf of institutional and family-office investors across multiple cycles, both in the United States and across Latin America.

Brian Stone

Managing Partner

Mr. Stone has led companies in the natural resource sector for over three decades. Most recently, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of Intrepid Potash, a publicly traded (NYSE) mining and minerals company operating in New Mexico and Utah. In addition to running Intrepid’s core mining operations, he led the company’s diversification into oil and gas through acquisitions of midstream and upstream assets in the Permian Basin.

Before joining Intrepid, Mr. Stone was a partner and Chief Operating Officer of Hupecol Operating Company, formed to explore for oil and gas in South America. During his tenure, the Hupecol team drilled more than 150 exploration wells at a 65 percent success rate in Colombia’s Llanos Basin, managed a portfolio that reached peak daily production above 25,000 barrels of oil per day, and led sales processes culminating in $1.3 billion of divestitures. He has also owned and managed midstream businesses in the United States (Linear Energy) and South America (Raven/Cimarrona).

Earlier in his career, Mr. Stone was Managing Director, Chief Risk Officer, and Vice President of Energy Marketing at the J.M. Huber Corporation.

Paul E. Jornayvaz

Managing Partner

Paul is a veteran energy entrepreneur who has founded and led multiple natural gas and crude oil marketing and midstream companies — including American Central Gas Companies and the Dan A. Hughes Company — and today leads HEXL Crude Oil & Logistics and HEXL Natural Gas. His career has run alongside the full arc of Eagle Ford development, investing in and operating through the play across its complete cycle, from its earliest days to its maturity — the same length of cycle Vaca Muerta is now entering.

That full-cycle vantage point makes him a natural voice for investors inside Alberdi’s management team: he has worked alongside Brian Stone and many of the investors backing Alberdi across multiple prior cycles, and understands an investor’s position as well as an operator’s.

Through many years of work in South American oil and gas, we have identified uniquely qualified individuals and resources who will join the team as it grows. Our approach starts with elite technical and operational skill specific to the basin — great geologists, geophysicists, and petroleum engineers are the backbone of a successful oil and gas company — supported by finance, legal, environmental, and community professionals with in-country and in-basin experience.

Completion engineers

A bench built in the Permian and Eagle Ford

Our partners have personally directed drilling, completion, fracking, and geomechanical engineering programs across the Permian and Eagle Ford basins, and have cultivated relationships with the completion engineers who executed them alongside them, well by well. These are identified individuals with the specific, hands-on skill this next phase of Vaca Muerta development rewards — not a search that begins once a program is funded, but a bench that can be deployed rapidly once it is.

Fracking & reservoir engineering

An integrated technical platform, on call

Access extends to an integrated petroleum engineering and laboratory platform built over three decades across unconventional reservoirs worldwide — three-dimensional hydraulic fracture modeling, completion fluids testing, reservoir simulation and production analysis, geomechanics, and advanced petrophysics, backed by in-house core and rock mechanics testing. It is the same caliber of technical capability our team has relied on in the Permian and Eagle Ford, ready to be brought to bear on Vaca Muerta.

Our group also maintains existing relationships with independent legal, financial, reserve-reporting, and laboratory partners. These individuals and outside resources have been identified and can be deployed rapidly.

Local Argentina presence

A management and technical operations team, ready to go

Alberdi has been working for the last two years with a dedicated local Argentina team with deep, hands-on experience in the country’s oil and gas industry — technical personnel across all disciplines, ready to deploy and already active in acquisitions and technical assessment. It is local expertise the general partners lean on directly, providing an on-the-ground view and support backed by strong Argentina oil and gas experience.

The capital behind us

Capital that is already lined up

Alberdi is not a capital-raising vehicle looking for a deal — the capital is already behind us.

Sophisticated family offices

Dedicated, sector-specific oil and gas capital, represented successfully in prior investments, whose principals know and trust our team directly.

Institutional operators

Large institutional oil and gas operators with performing assets around the world, who look to us to operate on their behalf and give them exposure to this region.
